Running as a Creative Practice

Some people have told me they run to zone out.
To control their energy.
To escape.
To find peace in motion.

At different points, I’ve resonated with every one of those reasons.

But there’s one more layer I keep coming back to:
I run to feel like my most creative self.

Maybe it’s because I’m naturally wired to move — restless, curious, always chasing ideas — but I’ve always felt my imagination ignite when my body’s in motion. Running has become this beautiful intersection where my thoughts stretch as far as my legs do.

Running to Think, Dream, and Create

Lately, I’ve been listening to a lot of podcasts on my runs. It’s funny — I can always tell what season I’m in creatively based on what I’m listening to.

When I’m on the cusp of creating something big, I crave silence — just breath and footsteps.
When I’m creatively fatigued, I fill my runs with ideas and voices that refuel me.

Either way, running becomes my space to process. It’s where I plan campaign ideas for work, imagine new stories to tell, or dream up shots I want to capture. It’s where I let my imagination run wild and see what shapes it takes.

I often finish a run and immediately want to grab my laptop to capture every thought that came to me between the miles.

Trail Running and the Art of Creation

I think that’s why I’ve always been drawn to trail running.
How can you not feel inspired when you’re literally running through creation itself?

Every trail feels alive — ecosystems constantly shifting, growing, adapting. I watch seasons change beneath my feet. I see flowers bloom, leaves fall, and sunlight move through branches differently each week.

It feels, in a much smaller way, like what’s happening inside my head: the constant creation, the shedding, the quiet regeneration.

On the trail, I let my thoughts go untamed. I never throttle them back. I let them run — pun intended — wild. I trust that later, I’ll shape them into something practical. For now, they get to exist freely.

We’re All Creators in Motion

I’ve always believed that everyone has something in their life that functions like running does for me.
That conduit between the body and the soul — the thing that opens the creative channel, even if you don’t think of yourself as “a creative.”

When people say they aren’t creative, I never buy it.
We are all creative beings.
We’re constantly regenerating, imagining, building, dreaming.

It’s just about finding the space — physical or emotional — that lets you access that part of yourself.

An Invitation

If you want to reconnect with your creativity, start here:

  • Where do you feel the most free?
  • Where do you let your thoughts wander without boundaries?
  • Where do you feel most like your childhood self — curious, playful, limitless?

That place, that rhythm, that moment — that’s your version of the long run.
That’s your creative practice.

What is it for you?

For me, it’s running. For you, it might be painting, walking, dancing, gardening, or sitting by a body of water.

Whatever it is — move toward it. Creation happens there. 🌿

Nine days in Colombia with a group of women I barely knew turned into a journey of culture, connection, laughter, and the kind of conversations you only have when you’re miles from home. What started as a storytelling project became a reminder of how travel dissolves walls and builds community.

We didn’t just capture stories — we became part of one.

Why I Choose a Plant-Based Life (And Why It’s Not About Perfection)

Why I Choose a Plant-Based Life (And Why It’s Not About Perfection)

A documentary opened my eyes to how deeply our food system impacts the planet, animals, and the people who grow our food. I went vegan overnight, then slowly softened as travel taught me that food isn’t just ethics—it’s culture, identity, and survival. Today, I still choose a plant-based lifestyle, but not from a place of perfection or labels. It’s simply how I opt out of a system built on waste, exploitation, and environmental harm.

This isn’t a call for everyone to “go vegan.” It’s an invitation to rethink the systems that shape what we eat, to explore small shifts that feel accessible, and to recognize that some of the most sustainable choices are also the simplest and cheapest.

It’s about alignment, curiosity, and compassion—for ourselves, for others, and for the planet we all share.
